Oral Piercing Aftercare

1. Use ice for 24 to 72 hours to keep swelling to a minimum.

2. Use a quality mouth wash (preferably alcohol free) after consuming anything but water: including cigarettes.

3. Use GLYOXIDE twice a day to deep clean the piercing.

4. Periodically check the balls on the barbell for snugness.

5. Jewelry should remain in place for 2 to 3 months before changing.

6. Use good quality jewelry such as surgical steel, niobium, titanium or inert nylon.

7. The use of gold jewely is not recommended as the mouth is a very acidic area and can cause the jewelry to turn black.

* It is not uncommon for the tongue to develop a tinted coating from using flavored mouthwashes. When the piercing is new, there is more salivation going on which increases plaque. Plaque can build up on the tongue and discolor from the mouthwash. Use your toothbrush to lightly brush away the plaque. You may also want to rinse with fresh water after using the mouthwash.
